Desmond Carrington’s All-Time Greats – playlist of this BBC Radio 2 show that plays some Light Orchestral Music and has been a great supporter of the recordings of Marianne Olyver and her Orchestra

Marco Polo White Label - one of the Naxos Labels. At present they have the most comprehensive series of recordings of British Light Music available on CD

Pavilion records - of particular interest to lovers of light orchestral music are CD re-masterings of wonderful recordings of Alfredo Campoli and his Orchestra, Albert Sandler and his Orchestra, Billy Mayerl,(Flapper label) as well as Albert Ketelby, (Pearl Label) performing his own compositions. Some of these are available through amazon.co.uk. If not they can be purchased mail order from the label.  

British Light Music Composers - a mine of information authored by light music expert Philip Scowcroft

ASV White Line Label - includes some excellent Eric Coates recordings with the BBC Concert Orchestra conducted by John Wilson. The sound engineer is Tony Faulkner. Their Living Era nostalgia label includes Salon Music of the 30’s - a wonderful compilation of Alfredo Campoli and his Salon Orchestra, Billy Mayerl plays Billy Mayerl and Sailing By - a double CD of Ronald Binge.

Hyperion Records - Have released the British Light Music Classics series - 3 CD’s so far - more to come we hope. Some great pieces which are well played and superbly recorded

The Light Music Society - no website yet, but apparently one is on its way. Chaired by Ernest Tomlinson, one of our favourite British Light Music composers. Contact us for membership details

The Robert Farnon Society - a fascinating website dedicated to the works of this great Canadian light music composer who made his home in  the UK. However it’s remit also extends to Light Music in general. The Society’s stated aim is to “ keep all our friends fully informed on the happenings in the World of Light Music, especially with regard to the available recordings on CD”. top of page
